The Power of Education
Education plays a huge part in my life, as well as in my legal practice. In addition to practicing law, I teach several classes at two local colleges and, in doing so, have found that a shared foundation of education benefits everyone. Through the years I’ve also found that, in addition to being a teacher, I have continued to be a student long after my formal education ended. This is has been especially true in my work as a lawyer.
As a business attorney, part of my job is to educate clients and prospective clients because I believe that having an understanding of the laws that apply to them can be crucial to running a business. It not only helps avoid pitfalls and potential legal issues, but it also can steer business owners toward making well thought-out decisions that can help them find even more success. When I have the opportunity to discuss legal matters with my clients, it fosters a better understanding of how to navigate growing their business while maintaining compliance with laws and regulations, as well as gaining an understanding as to why it’s crucial to comply with these standards.
As an attorney who represents a diverse group of businesses, I am also quite often a student in that relationship since it is critical that I get to know my clients and their business in order to provide the best legal advice and guidance. Gaining this information not only helps me determine the laws and regulations that apply, but also gives me a more thorough understanding of the effect that compliance has on the operation of a business. It also enables me to help clients evaluate risk and make the best decisions based on their circumstances and preferences in any given situation.
In sum, education continues to be an important aspect of my work and I continue learning every day with the intent to share what I’ve learned. I believe in how powerful education can be not only to my students, but also to my clients and I’m passionate about sharing my expertise to help business owners protect themselves and their assets, enabling them to find success with their goals.
