2022 Recap: Changing Regulations, Cybersecurity Developments, & Privacy

As the new year begins and we get back to work, it’s time to reflect on the past year to help ensure that your business is prepared to handle what lies ahead.  This includes things like reviewing liabilities and new regulations that may impact your business and having protections in place for your business’ cybersecurity.

When it comes to business law and cyber threats, this past year has seen a lot of new developments. With that in mind, here is my 2022 recap of topics that may be helpful for you to review:

January – 2021 Year in Review
My annual recap of topics touched on the year before may help give you a better look at how 2022 started and what changes we’ve seen since then. Starting out with a review can be helpful for getting into the right mindset for this reflection. This article can also serve as a reminder of what may have led to some of the developments discussed below.

Whether or not you live in a state with consumer privacy regulations, you may want to review what these acts require, as more may come to follow in 2023.

Data security should be of the utmost importance to your business, including not only consumer data but that of your employees as well. Biometrics may not be in use in every business, but those that require it for identification or other factors will want to review the latest laws regarding the handling of biometric security.

This article can help you get to know a little more about how the United States’ founding laws continue to make an impact on our daily lives even now. You may be surprised to learn how these laws impact your business!

August – Cyber Insurance Coverage for Businesses & Ransomware
Does your business have cyber insurance? Learn about how this coverage may already apply to you, and how it can provide additional protection for your business in the case of cyber attacks.

September – The Power of Education
Education plays a huge part in my life, not just in my time spent as a teacher, but in my work as a lawyer. This blog is a reflection on how continuing to learn can give you power.

October – Cybersecurity Awareness Month – A Review of Best Practices for Businesses
