As the new year begins, it’s a great time for reflection and review.  A look at the past year may give you a good idea of what goals to set and where to go from here. Likewise, I believe it’s a good practice in business and in writing to review what’s been accomplished in order to proceed with a level head and a good idea of what to work on next. When it comes to 2019, I covered a lot of ground on my blog, including a variety of subjects in cybersecurity, business law, and more! Here’s a review of the past year in blogs, to wrap it up and start 2020 off strong!

January – No Regrets – New Year’s Resolutions
The year started off with a blog that talks about how to approach major business decisions in the new year with a clear head and avoid running into regrets later on down the road. Making the resolution to tackle big decisions carefully and with the help of a business lawyer can help to bolster your efforts towards success.

February – GDPR Compliance for Hotels
In this blog, I discussed how the European Union’s GDPR affects the tourism industry, namely hotels, and explain more about what compliance entails. I also discuss what measures are necessary and how businesses can be prepared to meet the regulation’s  requirements.

March – Partnership Between the Arizona Cyber Warfare Range and Pima Community College
March’s blog introduced and further explained the Arizona Cyber Warfare Range and its partnership with Pima Community College. It also details my involvement in the project and how this may alter the way the community handles cybersecurity.

April – The Increase in Consumer Demand for Data Security
This article concerned the rising focus on cybersecurity as it continued to spread and evolve over time, with an increasing consumer demand for safety. It includes a discussion of how these rising demands can be met and what your business can do to ensure they’re staying on top of data security.

May – Ransomware, HIPAA and Cybersecurity for Healthcare Information
May’s article focused on ransomware and HIPAA, specifically related to the healthcare industry. It discussed how an attack could affect a healthcare-related business, as well as what can be done to help prevent such situations and compliance with the regulations that apply to them.

June – The California Data Privacy Protection Act and its Standard for New Regulations
In this blog, I explain the basics of the California Data Privacy Protection Act and how it set a standard that will most likely be followed for other states. I also address how this Act will, or may, end up affecting your business in the future.

July – How the Bill of Rights Applies to Businesses
To celebrate the month’s patriotic theme, this blog focused on how the Bill of Rights directly affects your business. It mentions specifics that still have an impact on your business even today and how they can be seen in action.

August – Operating Agreements Under Arizona’s New LLC Act
August’s blog was about operating agreements and how Arizona’s new LLC law affected them, including specifics about the act as well as what it entails. I also discussed what current LLC’s will need to know and how the Act’s default provisions may come into effect without action.

September – Cybersecurity in the News – Summer 2019
This article summed up the latest tidbits about the cybersecurity industry in the news, discussing their importance as well as some major events that occurred. Topics included FaceApp, the FTC Settlement, data security in banks, and Facebook.

October, November, and December – The California Consumer Privacy Act (Part One of Three)
The California Consumer Privacy Act (Part Two of Three)
The California Consumer Privacy Act (Part Three of Three)
The blogs over the past three months included a three-part series about the California Consumer Privacy Act, with FAQs, explanations about the scope of the Act, and a discussion about what needs to be considered with regard to compliance. They focus in on what business owners need to know, with descriptions of what this Act may apply to as well as how businesses should prepare to comply with its regulations.

The blogs I’ve published throughout 2019 may have a range, but one recurring theme is the importance of staying up-to-date with cybersecurity, data privacy, and the changing industry as it comes to data protection. Stay informed about new updates on regulations and standards to ensure your business is prepared, and also for an idea about what you should be updating or expecting to change over time, yourself. Please feel free to re-visit any of these blogs as 2020 rolls in, and I’ll be happy to expand on any subjects you need further assistance with in-person.
